Nefesh Experience

At the Innovative School, learners at all levels are empowered to imagine, problem solve and positively impact their communities. In our 4th & 5th grades, these efforts culminate in the Nefesh Experience, which inspires our learners to become changemakers. Throughout the Nefesh Experience, our oldest learners are motivated to apply their real-world knowledge and Kehilla values to improve our school and give back to our greater Miami community.

Nefesh Experiences

Earth Summit

Through the Nefesh Experience, our learners emerge as effective communicators and empathetic citizens. Our 5th graders recently put these skills to work at our annual Earth Summit, which showcases our learners’ sustainable solutions to real world problems.

Our 5th graders hosted the event, introducing guest speakers like Mayor Steven Meiner and Ximena Caminos from Reefline. We are so proud of our graduating changemakers!

School Elections

This past fall, 4th and 5th grade learners were inspired to hold a school-wide election. Learners generated ideas for school improvements and nominated representatives to advocate for each position.

Our 4th and 5th graders oversaw the logistics of the election, from the creation of a voting precinct, to designing their own I Voted stickers. We are so proud of how our learners are empowered to implement change in our Innovative School Kehilla.

Miami Diaper Bank

In collaboration with our Social Justice Network, our 4th and 5th graders learned about families unable to afford diapers and adequate supplies for their children. Our learners were inspired to collect supplies and funds from our community, to donate to the Miami Diaper Bank.

Learners were visited by representatives of the Miami Diaper Bank, who shared more details about diaper scarcity and thanked our learners for their contributions. Through the Nefesh Experience, our learners are given the opportunity to collaborate, problem solve, and exercise their citizenship to make an impact in our greater Miami community.

Mitzvah Day & Soup Contest

For our community’s annual Mitzvah Day, learners collected food for Miami Rescue Mission, to be donated to those experiencing food and housing insecurity. Learners explored both topics through Food Rescue of South Florida, which serves to reduce food waste and food insecurity in South Florida.

Our 4th and 5th graders also entered our Mitzvah Day Soup Contest with their Sunset Gazpacho. The learners sourced their own produce from Knaus Berry Farm and prepared the soup themselves. The money raised from the soup contest was donated to Blue Card and the Miami Holocaust Memorial.

Cultivating Generosity with JAFCO

Our learners read the book Give by Jen Arena and explored how it feels to give and receive gifts. To bring this concept to life, each of our learners were matched with a child’s wishlist from JAFCO (Jewish Adoption and Family Care Options) from which to purchase Hanukkah presents. Learners also wrote personalized cards for the children to accompany their presents.

We are so proud of how our learners have embraced their role as empathetic citizens in our Miami Beach community!

The Nefesh Experience prepares our graduates to fulfill their potential as:
