The Innovative School of Temple Beth Sholom hosted its annual Earth Summit on Thursday, May 7, bringing together learners, educators, and families for a day dedicated to climate awareness, learner-led research, and community engagement.

The 2026 Earth Summit featured keynote speaker Rachel Silverstein, an American marine biologist and environmental advocate best known as the Executive Director of Miami Waterkeeper, a nonprofit dedicated to protecting South Florida’s waterways.

Learners explored local environmental challenges through research, collaboration, and creative expression, ranging from scientific models to visual art, digital media, and performance. The public exhibition format reinforced purpose and accountability, encouraging learners to communicate their ideas to an authentic audience. This was just one example of how our learners engaged in rigorous learning rooted in the real world, and what makes the Innovative School of Temple Beth Sholom the best elementary experience in Miami Beach.
As the Earth Summit entered its fifth year, it continued to embody the school’s mission: cultivating empowered learners, empathetic citizens, constructive collaborators, effective communicators, and creative problem solvers, ready to make a difference in an ever-changing world. Through experiences like the Earth Summit, the Innovative School provided meaningful environmental education and joyful, academically rigorous learning rooted in the Miami Beach community.
