Room Parent Ambassador Role  

The Room Parent Ambassador (RPA) will help strengthen the partnership between the classroom teacher, parents in the class, and the greater school community by acting as a liaison. The RPA will assist the classroom teacher with communication and outreach, parent involvement and participation, and classroom initiatives. The RPA will foster class community building by providing a space for parents to connect with one another. The RPA will report to a Room Parent Coordinator who will help set expectations.  

Spirit of the Role  

The RPA role is an extension of a family’s broader commitment to the Innovative School community. RPAs are ambassadors of the school’s mission, vision, and guiding principles first, and liaisons for their individual classroom second. Parents who take on this role should be motivated by a desire to strengthen the whole school community, model engagement in school-wide life, and support the Innovative School’s culture, not solely by a wish to stay closely informed about their own child’s classroom experience.  Because the RPA represents Innovative School to other families, the role carries a level of visibility and trust beyond that of a typical volunteer position. RPAs are expected to reflect the school’s values in how they communicate, organize, and represent the classroom community.  

Responsibilities:  

• Inform parents of class updates, events, and opportunities, upon the teacher’s request   

• Send reminders as a follow-up to a teacher announcement 

• Coordinate volunteers 

• Encourage attendance at learning exhibitions, grade-level shabbat services, teacher conferences, Coffee & Conversations, Mystery Reader, and other class- or school-wide child-centered experiences   

• Respond to inquiries that parents may have and direct parents to the teacher as needed   

• Help organize classroom donations of supplies or materials or anything the teacher may want parent support with 

• Help organize opportunities to socialize outside of school to strengthen class community 

• Create and utilize a What’s App class chat (or Toddle) for the purpose of class communication; refer to the Parent Handbook for appropriate communication guidelines  

Requirements:  

• Must completely align with the Innovative School mission, vision, and guiding principles 

• Demonstrate ongoing investment in the broader Innovative School community, by actively participating in school-wide events and traditions beyond one’s own child’s classroom such as Shabbat services, learning exhibitions and Coffee and Conversations and modeling this involvement for other families in the class, rather than only promoting them to others.   

Selection & Renewal:  

RPA appointments are made and renewed at the discretion of the Room Parent Coordinator and school leadership. Selection and renewal will consider a candidate’s demonstrated investment in the broader Innovative School community, not solely their interest in serving their own child’s individual classroom
